The 29th Shinagawa Post Festival will be held in Shinagawa-ku, Tokyo for two days, September 28 (Sat) and September 29 (Sun), 2019.
The Shinagawa inn was re-established as the first post town in the Edo period, counting from Nihonbashi, Tokaido.
This is the 29th anniversary of this festival that began to convey the culture and tradition of Shinagawa to future generations.
The highlight of the first day (Saturday) of the Shinagawa Post Festival is “Oiran Dochu”.
It takes about 2 km from “Yatsuyama” in Kita-Shinagawa, the former Tokaido to “Aomono Yokocho” in Minami-Shinagawa.
In the Edo period, Shinagawa-juku, known as “Kita-no-Yoshiwara, Minami-no-Shinagawa”, dressed in a gorgeous costume, walks around with eight characters from the beginning.
In addition to the road, it is also worth taking a break in front of the Owariya kimono store.
The gorgeousness of the five bridegrooms standing against the gold screen is outstanding.
The highlight of the second day (Sunday) is the “Edo customs procession”.
People dressed in Edo costumes such as Zenigata Heiji, Princesses, Evil Agents, Ninjas, Town Girls, etc. perform lively.
In addition, there are many events such as the product market, the Mori Heavy Current Gunnery Artillery Corps, and the live stage.
Every year, restaurants along the road open stores and food stalls, and gourmet events are held at the main venue, Seiseki Park, where you can enjoy delicious food both in Japan and overseas.
